Our strategy: Full speed ahead

27 Jul 2026

We are facing a huge challenge in the production of food. The current food chain is not capable of providing sufficient food for the projected world population of 10 billion people in twenty to thirty years’ time, taking into account the climate issues, market developments, growing consumer awareness and customer needs. Based on these developments, we have set a number of priorities for Agrifirm in the coming years. These priorities are driven by our purpose: ‘A responsible food chain for future generations’.

A responsible food chain

As Agrifirm, we believe that we can and must contribute to a responsible food chain for future generations. This purpose drives all our actions and decisions. CEO Piet Hilarides explains how our new strategy reinforces this commitment.

Strategy 2025–2028: Full Speed Ahead ’28

In 2025, we launched our new four-year strategy to strengthen our contribution to a responsible food chain. This strategy responds to key global developments such as shifting regulations, growing sustainability demands, and pressure on farmer profitability.

Global developments

Based on global developments, we have set a number of priorities for Agrifirm in the coming years.

Sustainability priorities

Agrifirm wishes to enter into a dialogue with partners and customers about the future of the global agricultural sector and to strive for a responsible food chain. We want to make an important contribution to the following six themes:

We are driven to get the best out of the supply chain and contribute to our People, our Planet, our Profit and the Perspective of our customers, members and the agricultural sector.

People

We work safely and commit ourselves daily to monitor the quality of our products and solutions. The foundation on which we perform, work and conduct ourselves is described in our core values ‘STAR’. Within Royal Agrifirm Group we attach to many values, but some of them are so primary, so important to us that we call them our core values. They underlie our work, how we interact with each other, and which strategies we employ to fulfil our mission. The core values are the basic elements of how we go about our work. They are the practices we use every day in everything we do.

Planet

We provide optimal customer solutions. On a daily basis, we serve the chain with targeted advice and innovative new products from all Business Units. In areas where we can make a difference, we have integrated 3 corporate responsibility themes into our global objectives: responsible procurement, responsible operations and responsible solutions. Through our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy we provide a framework for our vision on delivering on relevant, measurable and sustainable value at farm, field and industry.

Profit

We bring together unique nutritional and functional solutions. Growth is important to our company and to all the people who work for us. Ultimately, it is also important for our members, our customers and the consumers. We see many opportunities for adapting the food supply chain even further to the requirements of today and tomorrow. By remaining financially healthy we can create new business models and concepts.

Perspective

We are a company with in-depth knowledge and passion, and we make maximum use of our strength to realize market growth in the Netherlands and abroad. Together with our partners and through collaborations we take advantage of new opportunities and anticipate on new developments. We care deeply about the future of the agricultural business and continue to work on a responsible food chain for future generations.

Our stories

In our Agrifirm stories, we explain how we work on our Global Ambitions towards a sustainable food chain for future generations.

Way of working

In order to deliver measurable, relevant and sustainable value at farm, field and industry, we are continuously working on innovations and improvement within our own organisation and systems. We do this within a number of workstreams:
Innovation Excellence, DiRAG, Operational Excellence and Commercial Excellence.

1. Sustainable incomes

We support our members and customers in the transition from bulk agricultural production to products with added value and a sustainable business model. Our advice is based on transparent supply chains, fair prices for food and responsible production. We strive to improve the revenue models of our members and customers. We also seek to increase appreciation of farming within society at large, in both the Netherlands and elsewhere.

2. Plant production systems

Our food production system will have to evolve in order to deal with future challenges. With our future products and services, we wish to contribute to healthy soils, biodiversity and a resilient ecosystem for arable farms and horticulture. We aim to reduce emissions, provide integrated cultivation advice to growers and also to increase the absorption of, for example, CO2.

3. Trustworthy food chains

Society demands more transparency where the production of food is concerned. Consumer trust can no longer be taken for granted. Therefore, we strive for a transparent food chain from farm to fork. We are also working on responsible procurement of our raw materials for animal feed.

4. Healthy animals

Animal health is the basis of sustainable livestock farming and contributes to better animal welfare. Therefore, we are working on developing new, natural concepts and solutions that contribute to animal health. With our feed concepts and solutions, we aim to reduce the use of antibiotics on the farm.

5. Sustainable, improved yields

All of our solutions and advice are geared to making the production of milk, meat and eggs and the cultivation of crops as efficient and responsible as possible. It is our ambition to optimise food production with our concepts, products and services, by improving feed conversion and enabling better crops yields with fewer inputs. Of course we do this in a responsible manner.

6. Climate-friendly production

We are aware that agriculture contributes to climate change. It is not just farms where greenhouse gas emissions need to be reduced; a more climate-friendly approach is necessary in the whole food production chain. We strive to be climate neutral in our factories and to produce animal feed with a low carbon footprint. In this way, we seek to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions and our negative impact on the climate.

Innovation

The only way that we can deal with the challenges in the food production system is by continuing to innovate. Consequently, Agrifirm's strategy for the coming years assigns an important role to the innovation agenda. Innovation in these areas takes place both outside and within our company, independently and in close collaboration with both science partners and start-ups and scale-ups.

Better Together

By collaborating, within Agrifirm, with customers, science partners, supply chain partners and other stakeholders in the food chain, we are able to offer the best solutions to our customers and achieve the maximum impact and results for a responsible food supply chain. By combining ideas, knowledge and skills, we can accelerate the development of new concepts, products and tools. For more information:
